Wishing I Was at SXSW

First, congratulations to Bryan and the 9rules for winning the Blog and Community categories respectively at SXSW, I couldn’t think of a more deserving group.

After seeing what a blast everyone’s having down there, I’ve decided that I will make my first visit to the conference next year. I know it’s a little early since this year’s event still hasn’t ended, but I’m really excited about finally meeting everyone and maybe even learning a thing or two.

In other news, my first big project at work has just gone live and I’m really happy about the way it turned out (it took a mammoth of a CSS file too).

Update: Just to clear things up, I don’t design anything at work, just front-end coding stuff. I only wish I could do some of the stuff the designer makes.

That site that you designed is f***ing bangin’. Nice work!

Ooh. I should mention (and I did on my flickr account) that I’m not a designer at work…just a front-end coder.

Our designer is – obviously – really good and I’ll be keeping my flickr updated with my latest projects.

That’s funny, because I was just thinking the opposite. The whole thing already seems way too trendy, and is bound to implode on itself. Personally, I’m really looking forward to pubcon in Boston this April. It’s a no frills conference on being a bad ass web developer (design, seo, sem, ppc, etc…). Most of the news I heard from SXSW was about online celebrities, and people wanting to know how they could be an online celebrity. Lame.

On a lighter note, I just checked out your first big project. It looks rockin. Great job!

Man, the site that you did for your school is really beautiful. Like you, I am a front end developer, and I am in the process of redesigning websites for a couple departments at my university. When I get it totally finished, I’ll give you the link so you can give me some pointers.

    Jon:
I guess it might be getting a little jaded, hopefully it can hold off on imploding until after next year.

    Tarun: Thanks, I guess… :D

Like I mentioned earlier (and I updated the article), I didn’t design it, but if you need help with any of the coding let me know.

I think the design leaves a lot to be desired, personally. Looks good underneath though. Though I did notice a few oddities – I’m not on my own PC so I can’t provide screenshots or any detailed descriptions, but I will come back later and do so. Basically, the sidebar (right side) seems to be having problems.

And the 9rules guys did great. I’m hoping to be able to attend the next SXSW next year too, finances allowing.

    Richard:
I’m getting a 404 on that image link you posted, but if you’re talking about the bottom rounded corners being out of place on some of the right sidebar modules, I’ve been working on that problem.

Has to be one of the strangest problems I’ve ever come across.

Also, if you think this design isn’t too nice, I’m coding some other beauties that I’m sure you’ll like.

Sorry about the 404, but yeah that’s exactly what I meant. Glad you noticed it.

Look forward to seeing the other beauties. :)

Has to be one of the strangest problems I’ve seen.

Try this: when you come across a module displaying the problem, press the back button then the forward button to return to the same page with exactly the same modules but without the problem…
