The Year in Review

The very first article on this website was published on June 18th of 2005. I believe I was just about to finish up my senior year of high school and decided that I would need something to occupy me over the summer. I had gotten into web design and publishing earlier in the school year for an inquiry project and thought it would be a good release for me. The site began mostly as a backup of my writing and class projects and remained completely private for its first few weeks.

The instant I published my first article, I knew that the site could only grow and be…interesting…if people contributed and argued in the post’s comments. So, I began the difficult task faced by every internet writer (fine, blogger) of publicizing their website. My task was especially tough because I decided that I did not want to involve my friends and family. The site’s first comment was “hynngngh”, not exactly a philosophical breakthrough but it showed me that people are willing to take the time to post something.

I quickly realized that if I could bring in enough visitors, a small percentage of them would be interested in the topics I was writing about.

During 2005, the site saw a few different designs and will see plenty more. I’m never happy with my designs for more than a few weeks and I don’t see a successful New Year’s resolution coming out of that area.

In terms of traffic, I don’t have an exact number for the year because I moved hosts and domains but I can say that December saw many more hits than the all the other months combined with 33,000 unique visitors and counting. The number of feed subscribers has also crept up steadily and now hovers around the 200 mark.

On a more personal note, 2005 has been wonderful. I have fallen in love with my university and have also found a wonderful new job with some very talented co-workers who I hope I can learn from.

2006 looks very promising as I will be launching some fun projects that I’ve been playing around with and the freelance work has really picked up recently.

I wish you all a happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year. I urge you to spend time with your families and friends, and appreciate what you have and give what you do not need. Thank you for reading and contributing and I really do love each and every one of you.

With love and gratitude,
Thame
