Charity of the Month - February Results

Unfortunately and for unknown reasons, this site’s ad revenue has absolutely plummeted. Others have described similar results with the Yahoo! Publisher Network (astounding results for the first few months before a significant drop), but a representative that I contacted seemed quite certain that this was not possible.

I will not be making a final decision about YPN until after they are out of beta, because even with the drop, the site is still earning more than I ever have with other advertising companies.

As promised, this month’s charity is the Humane Society.

Website News

I’m beginning to wonder if I should even announce these anymore, but there has been another redesign. Again, nothing earth shattering, just a change. There are still a few things missing and I’m sure there are a couple problems, but I’m happy with the overall look. Most sites I’ve seen tend to shy away from using real black because it can be a bit overpowering, but I think it looks interesting, at least on my laptop.

Design Fatigue

Every once in a while, I come across a website that is absolutely beautiful in every way; a design and layout so complete that it makes me throw away what I was working on and start over.

The truth is that I’m getting aggravated at knowing what I want from my designs but not being able to create it. I feel like I’m trying to force design when there is nothing in me. So, here are some mediocre concepts that would have graced the site if it weren’t for real websites like Notre Dame’s College of Arts and Letters and artypapers.

Amnesty International

Thanks to Benedict’s suggestion, this month’s charity will be Amnesty International.

Their worthy cause is to “campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Amnesty International’s vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.”

Also, in commemoration of African-American History Month, I have personally donated $100 to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, a much-needed tribute to one of the greatest men to ever live.

5 Tips for Getting the Most Out of digg Traffic

There has been a lot of talk recently about the worth of digg traffic. Nathan went so far as to deflect all digg referrers because he felt that it was not the type of traffic he wanted at his site.

Digg has been invaluable in the growth of my own site and continues to be my favorite news site. I have collected a few tips below that I have found useful for getting the most out of digg traffic.
